We begin by reviewing the installation address, property type, utility providers and current water heater. We determine whether the property is a single-family home, condominium, apartment building, HOA-managed property or small business.

We also document the existing water heater’s fuel type, capacity, model, approximate age and installation condition. This information helps determine whether the project may qualify for a SoCalGas tankless water-heater rebate, an LADWP heat pump water-heater rebate, TECH Clean California incentives, GO ZERO funding or another local utility program.

Based on the property information, we identify the water-heater rebates and incentive programs that may apply. Eligibility can depend on the ZIP code, utility territory, property type, household qualifications, existing water heater and proposed replacement equipment.

If more than one incentive may be available, we review whether the programs could potentially be combined. Because funding and program requirements can change, all rebate amounts remain estimates until confirmed or approved by the applicable program administrator.

We inspect the existing water heater, plumbing connections, gas line, venting, drainage, available space and surrounding installation conditions. For heat pump water-heater installations, we also review the property’s apparent electrical capacity, available voltage, circuit requirements and proposed equipment location.

Some heat pump water heaters may require a dedicated electrical circuit, load-management equipment or an electrical-panel upgrade. When electrical work is necessary, it must be completed by an appropriately licensed electrical contractor. Identifying these requirements early helps prevent unexpected costs or installation delays.

Not every tankless or heat pump water heater qualifies for the same incentive. Rebate programs may establish requirements involving ENERGY STAR certification, tank capacity, Uniform Energy Factor, voltage, connectivity, refrigerant type or inclusion on an official Qualified Products List.

After evaluating the property, we provide a written water-heater installation proposal explaining the recommended equipment, scope of work, permit requirements, estimated project schedule and total price.

Any anticipated rebate or incentive is displayed separately from the installation price. This allows the customer to understand the full project cost, the estimated incentive and the potential net cost. Rebates are not represented as guaranteed unless the applicable program has issued the necessary approval or reservation.

SureFix coordinates the plumbing portion of the water-heater installation, including removal of the existing equipment, installation of the approved replacement and completion of the work included in the proposal.

When a plumbing permit and final inspection are required, we coordinate those steps with the applicable building department. If the project also requires electrical work, we coordinate the installation schedule with an appropriately licensed electrical contractor. Completing the required permits and inspections is important because many Los Angeles water-heater rebate programs require proof of final permit approval before issuing payment.

After installation, we organize the documentation commonly required for a water-heater rebate application. Depending on the program, this may include the paid itemized invoice, manufacturer and model information, serial number, equipment specification sheet, ENERGY STAR documentation, before-and-after photographs and proof of final permit approval.

We help prepare the applicable rebate paperwork and explain any customer signatures, utility-account information or income-verification steps that must be completed directly by the applicant. Rebate application assistance is included with qualifying SureFix installations. Final eligibility, approval, funding and payment are determined by the individual utility or program administrator.
